Margaritas

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (4 limes)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (3 lemons)
  • 4 teaspoons grated lime zest
  • 4 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup tequila
  • 1 cup triple sec
  • 1 cup crushed ice, plus extra for serving

Recipe

  • 1 combine the lime juice, lemon juice, lime zest, lemon zest, sugar and salt in a large liquid measuring cup. cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the flavors meld, about 2 hours.
  • 2 strain the juice mixture into a pitcher and stir in the tequila, triple sec and 1 cup of the crushed ice. pour over additional crushed ice before serving.
  • 3 to make ahead: the recipe can be prepared through step 1 and refrigerated, covered tightly with plastic wrap, for up to 2 days. the longer the mixture sits, the more it mellows, eventually losing any harsh acidity and tasting of pure citrus only.
